About
A place in the cultural and creative industries for young adults, founded in 2026 in Schöneberg, grown out of ten years of work in Berlin neighbourhoods.
Where we come from
Our team began its work with young adults at Give Something Back to Berlin, a Berlin organisation that has run open activities in neighbourhoods since 2013. There we led workshops, cooking evenings and film series with young adults for years, among them the series Hummus and Stories in neighbourhood kitchens in Neukölln.
In 2026 we founded Berlicht to put this work on its own feet. With rooms of our own, our own equipment and the freedom to run programmes for years.
What we are for
Berlicht is a company with a social purpose. Our purpose is an interdisciplinary place for culture and social participation in Berlin, with four lines of work.
Our rooms on Belziger Straße, Schöneberg.
Cultural events
Exhibitions, festivals, screenings and evenings of cooking and storytelling, with priority for young adults who otherwise have little access to culture.
Workshops and skills
Open workshops in film, photography, fashion and design for young artists and disadvantaged young adults in the cultural and creative industries, free and without conditions. These are Open Lens and Studio Belziger.
Storytelling with media
Digital storytelling and media production, with food and the kitchen as a way into conversations about where people come from and how they live together.
And as the base for all of it, a place with a studio and equipment that can be used without paying.
How we work
Small groups, real tasks, a result you can show. We go where people are, to libraries, schools and kitchens, rather than waiting for them to come to us. And we work with people who are themselves filmmakers, photographers and designers and know the work they pass on.
Where the money goes
At least 80 percent of our annual surplus goes back into this purpose, as written in our articles. We publish our income and spending every year on the transparency page.
